Helooooooooo. Ciaran here with another random post that has just sparked my interest. There's something I've been wanting......something I've been wanting to get for some time now. You maybe asking: "Ciaran, what is this something?" well my dear friends it embodies the title of this blog post. A capture card.
Now you maybe asking: "....but Ciaran, what in God's green earth is a capture card?". Well....my response to that would most likely be something to the degree of "I don't really believe in God so what ever it is it must be out of this God's world".....but I suppose I'll give you a hint.....CAPTURE......CARD.
This is a device that records the raw video output of something like a TV. It is given the name "Capture card" because it records or "captures" this, and the card part because its a card that fits in to a free slot on your PC's motherboard. Of course not all capture cards are actually cards, there are two different types. Internal and external.
The internal is the type that is actually a card and actually goes "in" your PC, get it? External meaning outside put simply is the type that isn't a card but more of the device with a casing that connects to both your TV and PC through USB's or A/V prongs. Seeing the internal is already connected to PC all it has is the A/V to go into your TV. Because of this the TV and PC must be close proximity to each other.
Put simply a capture card allows you to record the audio and video output put out by your TV and converts it into a file that you can view and if need be, edit. You maybe asking now: "Ciaran, why would need such a thing?". Well firstly to record games, yes games. And secondly, well really there is no secondly that's I want to do.
Problem being this devices are rather expensive ranging any where from $100 to $500 NZL depending on quality. Just my like two of my friends now have such devices that I may use. They are not exactly top of the line but they do produce viewable SD quality video. I'm planning on borrowing one of theirs to use for a period of time.
Well that's pretty much all for today's post.
